USERS OF ADOBE ACROBAT READER (version X) BE WARNED.

This web page is being created on 5-11-2011 responsive to my attempt to interface with the Adobe web site. Leaving feedback and requesting support and trouble-shooting information on the official Adobe web site for free products (Adobe Reader) is far too difficult. My recent update from Adobe Reader Version 9.4 to X (version 10.0.01) compromised my computer's ability to print a file onto my hard drive though a dedicated pdf file printer ( e.g. abxpdf available from the www.USPTO.gov web site). Also, once a first pdf file is loaded in Adobe Reader 10 (AKA Adobe Reader X), a second pdf file does not load for about 1+ minutes (I assume some process must time-out first). Subsequent to the upgrade, printing from a document in a WordProcessor to the abxpdf pdf document printer caused my WordProcessor to "hang" in Windows XP, SP3.

Let's be clear - there is absolutely no doubt; the upgrade between versions 9.4 and X is the actual cause of the printing and time-lag problems. I constitute the entire computer resource help center for my company - there has been no recent change to any hardware. There are others who have reported the time-lag problem, including on the forum at www.Adobe.com. A workable solution appears to be reinstalling a previous version of Reader, but Adobe does not provide access to a wide-enough selection of prior versions. In my particular case, it seems I may need version 9.3 to produce a document that the USPTO web site will acccept without producing an error message, but only version 9.4 is available at the Adobe web site. In my case, the upgrade to Acrobat Reader version X was motivated by version 9.4 not being supported by the USPTO web site.

On another topic, why does Adobe Reader not close all windows when the top- and right-most box with an x" is left-clicked? This is the accustomed behavior for windows programs, and was the behavior for at least certain past editions of Adobe Reader.

After uninstalling the Adobe Air component, the printer-hanging issue appears to have vanished. However, the lag-time to load a second pdf file remains. I typically launch each pdf file by double-clicking the file name in Windows Explorer.

Nope, still have a problem printing to abxpdf when Adobe Reader X is running. After quitting the WordProcesser, and quitting Adobe Reader X; re-launched WordProcesser (without rebooting) and was able to print to the pdf printer and make a pdf file on my hard drive.

Hopefully, this web page will be of some use to others. If you have solved the problems I am experiencing, please let me know. bct@diviti.com Use a descriptive subject, such as Adobe Reader X solution, to avoid being SPAM filtered.

Perhaps the print queue has become corrupted due to Adobe Reader X. It has been determined that if the network-connected print server is off-line, the word processing software hangs up when executing a print command. Rebooting the computer is not required to fix the problem. Once the print server is booted, restarting the word processing software is sufficient to make a printout.
